Wahine angler Kathleen Wyatt took a giant lead in the HMT Series at the Lazy Marlin Hunt with this 942.5 pound blue marlin – the largest of 2022! This fish and consistent stream of small fish tagged and released kept the team on Sea Genie II in the lead of the HMT Series until the last hour of the last day of the Wrap, when nudged out by Bwana. Painless Paul Douglas strikes again! A 747 pound beauty to take Largest Marlin purse and 2nd Place Overall as the Firecracker is a “most points” tourney, not a biggest marlin tourney in base category.
Ed Boyd and Team Pursuit caught the 2nd largest of the Firecracker but on the same day Marlin Magic caught the largest, so were edged out of largest per day and most points per day.
Tm Lemman and team APEX had the 3rd largest marlin but took Most Points and Largest Day 2 at Firecracker.
The Kanaka All Stars on Sea Baby II helped Chip Wagner of Texas sweep the Skins tourney with this 558 pounder.
Edgar Artecona of Texas crushed the Lure Makers Challenge with this 688 on SAPO with Capt. Chris Choy. The winning fish was caught on an Ol’ George Lure, made in Texas and tested, tried and true on the Colorado River.
Nick Wada brought the first marlin of the Lure Makers tourney to the scale, this 497 pounder caught from Northern Lights with Capt. Kevin Nakamaru.
Wahine angler Joy Painter added 1 tag to this 490 lb. qualifier for a total of 655 point to get in the money at the Lure Makers Challenge with Capt. Kaiwi Joe at the helm of Mauna Loa. The fishing trip was their first date!
