The 26th Annual Firecracker Open Big Game Tournament starts fishing tomorrow.
Save some time and don’t stand in line, drop by the Tournament Office at Honokohau Harbor and preregister so you can kick back and enjoy yourself this evening.
As everyone likely knows by now, Team “Rod Bender” caught a 1,043 pound blue GRANDER Wednesday Steve Spina was the HMT Series Top Scoring Angler of 2012 and Capt. Kerwin and family crew of Heather and Brent Masunaga were Top Scoring Boat. These folks are truly a local fishing family, carrying on a heritage going back many, many generations in Kona.
“Medusa” just missed winning the World Cup by 8 pounds yesterday with a 660 lb. blue, and there was a 720 pounder weighed in Kona that would have won, if only it had been entered.
Perfect segue – you can’t win if you don’t enter, so get on down and enter early.
This evening, the “Polynesian Pirate” Tommy “Kahikina” Ching will be the special guest MC tonight, doing some stand up and just generally making sure everyone has a good time. The kids from Kalanihale Education Organization of the Milol’i Virtual Charter School will stop by for a brief song or two.
We are helping this remote charter school raise funds this summer for a much needed facility, as they are now studying in the community house or “hale” at the park. Kalanihale is a a HI Non-profit corporation registered with the AG Office of Charities AND has a 501 (c) 3 determination from the IRS, making your contributions tax deductible.
Miloli’i is the last remaining Hawaiian fishing village, and having a school in the village instead of after an rough 50 mile round trip will help these kids immensely.
So here we go, Leg Two of the Hawaii Marlin Tournament Series. We expect 55 boats and more than $300,000.00 in available purse, so don’t be left on the dock.
IF THE DOOR TO OCEAN ECO TOURS IS CLOSED AND LOCKED, WE ARE UPSTAIRS. CALL, HOLLER AND KNOCK. WE’LL COME LET YOU IN.
